Moonlight in June!!!

The "Moonlight in June" ride was a huge success.  We'll have to do it again!  We  planned a weekend of fun and activities in full Cowhorn Trails style. First, everyone set up camp and began to ride, some relaxed in the shade and watched trainer Wess Ehret train and ride two horses and a mule for the first time. Then activities in the arena began, barrel racing, barrel pick up and many more. As the evening drew near the music  cranked up for an  evening of dancing till the full moon hung high, we saddled up for a cool fun evening of  moonlight riding that was a blast or could it have been a little spookie?  Many possibilities for FUN!

Where they really necessary???!!?

Children are our hearts and amusement, just ask any parent. Parents always try to raise their children right by instilling good manners, give them a good education, food on the table and clean body and clothes.  In the quest to achieve these goals, there are times when all parents may as well laugh, throw your hands up and say “I tried” cause what else can you do?

One of the things we strive for at CHT is a family oriented event and in the fall of 2007 we had a group of children 8 to 12 years old who rode their horses for miles and hours, on the trails and around camp, in the arena and even more after all that. It made me tired just watching them but the giggling and yelling at each other made me laugh just watching them have a great time. They even rode the dog when he got tired. Well mid afternoon on Saturday one of the little girls came out of the shower, hair dripping wet and arms full of wadded up dirty clothes with a huge smile on her face. I stopped and asked her if she was good and clean? She replied “Yes’mam, I sure am”. So I asked why so early in the day? She said “oh my Daddy made me take bath”. Well what are you going to do now? (I should have seen this answer coming) so she replies in a very matter of fact tone “I’m going to ride my horse”.  I figure she’s wondering were the showers really necessary?

Our September-October '06 Ride

WOW!! What a ride !!

With almost doubling in size, we had people and horses everywhere. Our week started with people coming in on Thursday afternoon, Friday morning our "never coming back again" guy ( see April Tales From the Trail for story) being the first through the gate, from there on out it was non stop. People were even coming in to ride on Sunday morning. We had people from down around Baton Rouge, Louisiana, some beautiful Tennessee walkers from Tennessee, some from Alabama and Arkansas. Everyone had nice things to say about our trails and place. They love not being around roads and the kids always have too much fun. Though our miles and miles of horse trails are always a hit, our wagon ride went great on the three miles of wooded trails and eleven miles of very low traffic back roads. They loved the shaded lunch spot that is covered by age old oak trees across from a county store that has BBQ and burgers. Camp is always a buzz with everyone coming and going.
